Summer Ball - 21st June 2008
The 11th Summer Ball is fast approaching, and we are looking for volunteers to help with the layout and decoration of the marquee, as well as the clearance operation after the event. If you think you may be able to help, please see either Liz Proudfoot or Roger Miller. Thanks!
The Garden
The Much Hadham Playgroup Ball has raised funds to alter our garden.
The work was carried out during the summer holidays, and there is now a fixed slide, a train and station, a tree seat, and a sand pit installed with appropriate soft surfaces around.
All this will encourage children to use their imagination outside as well a s physical play.
What are we doing this term?
Continuing our theme of shops, we cover a few more unusual shops after the bag shop and the music shop, we look at a clothes shop, a café, an optician, a camping shop, a sports shop and a travel agent.
Most children know the Spar and Tesco and feel that’s it, so we are trying to broaden their horizons. Look on holiday if you can find some other shops to tell us about.
Within this theme we help the children to expand their knowledge, language and mathematical development, help them to share, be creative and explore within a safe environment.
Week 1- 2nd – 6th June –Clothes shop – Father’s Day - Photographer
The first week we concentrate on creating a father’s day present .
The children will be tracing a washing line practising fine motor skills and looking at different items of clothing.
Week 2- 9th –13th June – Cafe
Making a Father’s day card, doing various cooking activities, making bread rolls and fairy cakes, helps to look at measuring, changes when the dough rises and before and after cooking.
Also a café for snack time, looking at healthy foods.
Week 3 -16th -20th June – Optician
Dot-to dot glasses helps practise fine motor skills and making some funky sunglasses.
Trying different frames and looking at other optical instruments, like magnifying glasses, telescope, kaleidoscope and binoculars as well as cameras. When going for a walk make them look out for red cars, yellow houses, dogs or purple flowers. All these normal activities help to develop good observation skills.
Week 4 – 23rd –27th June – Camping shop
Each child will be tracing a wigwam and threading their own tent(paper)
We’ll try and black out the quiet room for night time camping with sleeping bags and torches and have a tent building activity with sheets and pegs.
Week 5 - 30th June – 4th July – Sport’s shop
The children will be doing an odd one out picture of sports equipment and make a zig-zag book, cutting out and sticking.
Week 6 – 7th – 11th July – Travel agent – Folders
Playing travel agent, booking holidays and making a suitcase for their work to take home for the holiday.
Week 7 – 14th – 18th July –Teddy Bear’s Picnic

hare.
